Shattered Topography: Industry Conversation on Fit-out Waste and Demolition
As part of Climate Action Week Sydney, we hosted an evening at Klaro showroom connected to Shattered Topography: A Monument to Waste - an installation by UNSW Arch_Manu, ScaleRule and Prevalent that brought attention to the scale of waste generated by the built environment.
The event brought together voices from research, design, manufacturing and reuse to discuss how waste is shaped long before materials reach landfill - through the way we design, specify, make and fit out our spaces.
We heard from Ben Berwick (Prevalent), Annabel Koeck (ScaleRule), Dr Chris Bamborough and Dr. M. Hank Haeusler (UNSW Arch_Manu), Alona Klaro (Klaro Industrial Design) and Katie Revie (ReLove), with the discussion moderated by Farnaz Fattahi.
What came through clearly was that reducing waste requires more than good intentions. It calls for better systems, more thoughtful design decisions, and a stronger focus on systemic change.
Thank you to all the speakers and everyone who joined us.
